During a reasonably frustrating time connecting social media track several months ago, I was presented with a NEW author that I’d never encountered.
Tyler Freel.
While I originally thought that it was a pen-name being used to conjure content, after a series of weeks reading ongoing articles from Tyler, I found that not only was he REAL, he was “FOR REAL” when it comes to talking about firearms, the outdoors and living a life that many of us only ever accidentally think about.
It’s time to welcome a great and creative writer, Father, Writer and Outdoorsman that has so much to share with me and the g rowing 2GuysTalking Guns audience.

Tyler Freel is a dedicated outdoorsman, writer, and father who brings a wealth of experience and passion to the world of hunting, shooting, and outdoor adventure. Raised in southern Colorado and later moving to Alaska at age sixteen, Tyler has built a life deeply rooted in the wild, where his zeal for hunting, fishing, and shooting has shaped both his personal and professional journey. He’s worn many hats—from working construction and earning an engineering degree, to becoming a competitive shooter in multiple disciplines, and most notably, carving out a successful career as an outdoor writer.
Tyler’s writing career took off in 2010 when he began contributing freelance articles to Outdoor Life, earning recognition for his ability to provide thoughtful, firsthand perspectives on firearms and outdoor life. In 2020, he became a full-time staff writer for Outdoor Life, where his work is infused with genuine enthusiasm and technical insight. He’s known for field-testing firearms thoroughly and for giving honest, experience-based reviews—his recommendations for concealed carry guns have become trusted resources in the firearms community. Tyler’s writing style stands out for its conversational tone, depth of detail, and the way it captures his excitement for the field.
In addition to his writing, Tyler hosts a podcast called “Tundra Talk” focuses on Alaska hunting, fishing, and outdoor skills, offering practical knowledge and storytelling that resonate with both local and Lower 48 audiences.
