Healthy Young Athlete Podcast: Gymnastics: Injuries & Myths...

Gymnastics: Injuries & Myths…

I don’t know many people that don’t enjoy watching gymnastics during the Olympics. It’s unfortunate we won’t be able to watch them this upcoming summer but here’s hoping for 2021. It’s estimated that nearly 75,000 of our kids participate in gymnastics. However, there is a risk of injury and there are also some common myths or misconceptions about gymnastics that may shy some people away from the sport. Today in the podcast I’ll be joined by two pediatric sports medicine physicians who are former gymnasts themselves and we will discuss gymnastics, common injuries we see often in our clinics, as well as tackle some of the possible myths and misconceptions of the sport to help parents and their kids better appreciate the sport and stay safe in the process. And if you are a gymnastics coach, feel free to listen in to this discussion as I’m sure there will be some things new to you.
